What does the non-profit organization Water for Our World, thousands of people in the village of Lutale Uganda, and the January 2012 Phoenix Rock-n-Roll Marathon have in common?
You!

Imagine drinking out of this mud hole with your parents, your children, your friends. And you walked miles to get here.

This life is lived by 15,000 Lutale villagers in the Mayuge District of Bunya County, Uganda, Africa.  The village of Lutale is a central hub.  Families of men, women, and children work and trade, receive an education, and care for the elderly in the village and it’s surrounding area.  The villagers built and maintain three trading centers and numerous schools to create better lives for themselves. Yet, their time is consumed with making and executing plans to fetch and bring back water.  They walk varying distances, sometimes miles, to drink out of this, similar holes, or a lake.  You and I would define their water as mud; all of the water is dirty, it smells, and is riddled with harmful bacteria and disease.  A borehole drilled well will be an incredible Life Giving Blessing to the villagers of Lutale. A borehole drilled well will deliver clean water and is within their reach- - if you help.

For the fourth year in a row, Water for Our World has assembled and trained a marathon team to run in the Rock-n-Roll Marathon in Phoenix, AZ.

In January 2011 thanks to help from you and others like you, the marathon team raised enough money to drill a well in Wangobo.  In 2010, Pasikula.  In 2009, Juba.  Three years, three wells, tens of thousands of men, women and children’s lives impacted!

For those who have helped Water for The World deliver the miracle of drinking water, we thank you for financing the wells in 2009, 2010, and 2011.  For those who have yet to have the opportunity to help, and those who are here tirelessly, we ask for your help by making a donation to the marathon runner or friend who sent this letter to you.  Any size donation is needed and appreciated. If you have a dollar, it will help build the well in Lutale. If you have two, we will be there twice as fast.  If you can afford to assign a budget based on thinking of this as a gift for a loved one, well, we really hope you love ‘em lots.  Please help.

Information on Team Water For Our World

Team Water For Our World is an informal group of runners and walkers, most of whom are based in Arizona and the Anthem area (but includes others that are out of state) and we share a couple things in common—1 . We like to run or walk (some of us are doing a half marathon for the first time, others have done several marathons), and 2. We have a heart to help the thirsty of the world and have banded together to help make improve and save lives of those less fortunate than us. 

This is our team’s fourth year. We’ve successfully completed and installed three drinking water wells in remote villages in Africa.  Our team slogan is “The Finish Line is Just The Beginning”.  Long after race day comes and goes, the impacts of the new drinking water well we install, with your help and support, will be long lasting and life-changing. The lives of those on the receiving end of this essential resource, clean drinking water, will potentially be transformed, forever. 

We welcome you to consider running in support of this great cause, and join us. Water For Our World is now an official charity of P.F. Chang's Marathon, meaning that we are committing to bring a group of 20 or more registrants to sign up under the WFOW group (which we will do once we gather all the registration forms from you). Each registrant is committed to raising $500 for Water For Our World, and with that your entry fee is paid for. There are other benefits:

#3 team tent inside the race finish area, with refreshments

We also get to exhibit and have a table at the marathon expo, our team will have a few Coach’s race bibs so that a few coaches have improved access to the course and can go in and out of the finish areas with our team members. 

All in all, this should be an improved race experience for the team and participants.
